My 30-Day Art Challenge: A Creative Journey
2 min readartIf you're following me on X or Instagram, you know how much I love art—especially calligraphy. About a month ago, I decided to challenge myself creatively with a 30-day art challenge, and I set a few simple rules to make it interesting.
The Rules:
1. Limited art supplies.
Why? Growing up, I didn’t have the luxury of endless art supplies. Yet, I was able to create some of my best work with whatever I had. This time, I wanted to push myself to be more creative within a limited scope. Sometimes, fewer options spark greater creativity.
2. Draw from memory or my surroundings.
Why? It’s easy to recreate something I’ve seen on the internet, but I wanted to test my imagination. I challenged myself to create art inspired by my own memories or what I saw around me—without relying on digital images for reference.
With these two rules in mind, I chose to use just post-it notes and a black pen for the entire challenge. Simple, right?
The first two weeks were smooth sailing. I was able to create without much struggle, drawing inspiration from my surroundings and memories. But by week three, things got tough. There were days when I spent hours in front of a laptop or TV, struggling to find inspiration. It felt like the creative juices just weren't flowing.
But guess what? I did it. I finished my 30-day challenge! And you know what? It felt amazing to complete it, even if some of the days were harder than others.
What did I learn?
If you're expecting a deep lesson or some profound insight... well, there isn’t one. Sometimes, you do things not to learn but simply to enjoy the process or relax. That’s exactly what I did with this challenge—I pushed myself to create every day just for the fun of it.
So, take a moment to admire my 30 days of art. It’s a reflection of me stepping outside of my comfort zone, exploring my creativity, and most importantly, having fun along the way.
